Appendicitis occurs when bacteria invade and infect the wall of the appendix. Children do not have the typical signs of appendicitis always; hence parents may not get medical treatment for them in time. The appendix is located in the lower right portion of the abdomen. Without treatment, an inflamed appendix can rupture, causing infection of the peritoneal cavity (the lining around the abdominal organs) and even death. As the swelling in the appendix increases, the pain tends to move into your right lower abdomen.
The appendix is a narrow tubular pouch attached to the intestines. Appendicitis is a very common type of internal disorder. Pressing on the appendix area, coughing or walking, may all make the pain worse. Patients with appendicitis always need urgent referral and prompt treatment.
