Solomon Islands: An Ideal Honeymoon Spot with Long Shores

Solomon Islands are believed to have got their first inhabitants somewhere around 30,000 years ago. Spanish who reached the Islands in the year 1597 named it as Islas de Salomon meaning Solomon Islands. During the year 1767, the British stumbled on these islands leading to several clashes between the visitors and the natives of the Solomon Islands. They remained under the British rule till they got independence in the year 1978 on July 7.

The Solomon Islands is a group of islands consisting of new Georgia, Choiseul, Malaita, Guadalcanal, Santa Isabel and San Cristobal. Honiara, the Capital, is situated on Guadalcanal Island and the highest mountain called the Makarakombu is seen there. The population of the Solomon Islands is very little and most of them live in the Capital and other major towns. Even though the official language is English, the natives of the Solomon Islands speak nearly 74 languages. Majority of the population has embraced Christianity as the religion.

The tourism in Solomon Islands is considered to be in the basic stages. But then, they attract more crowds due to the infinite natural resources they have in them. It might be a bit difficult to conduct trips and move around the Solomon Islands effectively and efficiently as the infrastructure is very limited. Most of the vacationers are honeymooners as the beaches and the places of the Solomon Islands are uncorrupted, full of pure aura and with shore stretches fully devoid of any human intervention. The major activities known in the Solomon Islands are snorkeling, scuba diving, surfing and fishing.

Persons who love scuba diving and snorkeling can visit the Solomon Islands any time of the year, but if persons yearn for some land based activities it is better advised not to reach the Solomon Islands during the months from November to next March as it is very stickier during such periods. From June to August, the weather is very hospitable and fortunately it is the time of many festivals and holidays too. Surfing period starts from October and lasts till April. As during major holidays like Easter and Christmas the accommodation and transportation facilities might be brimming to the peak it is advised that a traveler should book his accommodation well ahead during such periods. Hiking can also be opted by the tourists through the jungle but they should be careful enough to wear suitable clothes to avoid leeches and other insects.

Solomon Islands are filled with many highlights. The Honiara hotels offer a unique experience to their customers with the performance of the panpipe players, playing regularly. The Boat trip is another major attraction starting from the capital of Honiara to the Gizo, passing through many romantic locations of the Islands. Solomon Islands are the right example for eco tourism. Inter island travel is recommended by ship than by air as it is very economical and very colorful.
